LEED
The U. S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification program provides many incentives to firms that design their projects to achieve environmental performance. Incentives include the establishment as a recognized leader in the green building sector, the validation of achievement through third party review, qualification for a growing array of state and local government incentives, contribution of a green building knowledge base and earning LEED certification and a certification plaque.
Structural Stone’s products can aid architectural and design firms in obtaining points toward LEED Certification for their projects.
For credit achievement calculation, products sourced (extracted, manufactured, and purchased) within 100 miles (160 km) of the project site are valued at 200% of their base contributing cost. For credit achievement calculation, the base contributing cost of individual products compliant with multiple responsible extraction criteria is not permitted to exceed 100% its total actual cost (before regional multipliers) and double counting of single product components compliant with multiple responsible extraction criteria is not permitted and in no case is a product permitted to contribute more than 200% of its total actual cost.
Structure and enclosure materials may not constitute more than 30% of the value of compliant building products. Projects with significant amounts of structural and enclosure materials may exceed the 30% limit by calculating an alternative structure and enclosure limit.
